I am new here and recently finished building a new Ubuntu 18.04 LTS OS PC, with the following major components:
CPU: i7-7740X (soon to be replaced by an i7 9800X)
RAM: Vengeance LPX 64 GB
VID: EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 (x2 bridged for SLI, if i can manage to figure that out)
SSD: Samsung EVO 970 Plus 1 TB (used as Boot drive)
HDD: Toshiba X300 6 TB (used for storage, NTFS formatted)
Now with all that out of the way, yes, it's only one OS, not dual boot. The issue I came across, is setting up my HDD with full permissions with auto mount on the disks app from Utilities. I'm pretty sure this is a subject that must have been covered before but each case seems to be different and even though I searched for answers, nothing came close to my case. When I mount the HDD manually, all permissions are set as the picture below.
Manual mount When I activate auto mount, for some bizarre reason, all permissions change to "root" as seen on the second screenshot.
Auto mount I want to have everything set with full permissions as it is shown on manual mount (Screenshot 1) when auto mount is activated. Is there an easy way of fixing this without too much hassle using Terminal to manually edit the fstab file, etc? Perhaps through the Disks application or some other GUI tool?
